Ballroom dancing is a couples dance where couples move to the music using step-patterns and rhythms that match the character of a given song. There are two main types of ballroom dance. The first, referred to asthe Smooth/Ballroom style of dance, are flowing dances that move around the entire dance floor in a counter-clockwise fashion. The couple is constantly moving on the dance floor, smoothly transitioning from pattern to pattern. Examples are Foxtrot, Waltz, Tango, Viennese Waltz and Quickstep.
The second type of ballroom dance is called the Latin/Rhythm style of dance. These dances pretty much stay in one spot on the dance floor. They are energetic dances that reflect the syncopated rhythm of the music being danced to. Examples are Swing, Rumba/Bolero, Cha Cha, Salsa/Mambo, Merengue, Disco/Hustle, Samba, Paso Doble and Jive.
Kizomba is one of the most popular genres of dance and music originating in Angola. It is a derivative of traditional Angolan semba with zouk and compas music from the French Caribbean Islands. On this basis, Kizomba music emerged as a more modern music genre with a sensual touch mixed with African rhythm. Unlike Semba, Kizomba music is characterized by a slower and usually very romantic rhythm. Join us to learn this mesmerizing dance with its unavoidable sensuality that's helping it spread across the world.
Bachata is a dance from the Dominican Republic in the Caribbean islands. Both the music and the dance have been influenced by Cuban Bolero, the Merengue (also of Dominican Republic origin), Salsa and Cumbia.
Salsa is a hot spicy rhythm forcing the hips to follow every beat. It is one of the most dynamic musical styles of the Western World.
